Probably many of you have already been to the capital of Germany. That’s why we have organized an excursion, which will lead you to spots of Berlin that are not on the typical touristic tracks. On our schedule for these days is of course a visit of the German Bundestag (parliament). We will also have a guided walk through “Neukölln”, the cultural melting pot of Berlin. Besides we will do a guided tour on top of “Teufelsberg”, literally “Devil’s Mountian”, an abandoned spy station that was used by the Americans during the Cold War. As another highlight we get in touch with the history of Berlin as a divided city during the Cold War. To uncover more about this era and how it has shaped and still shapes Berlin today, we will offer two options to choose from: either a cycle tour along the Berlin Wall or a guided tour through the museum of the German Democratic Republic, including a discussion with a contemporary witness.

Please register via: young.researchers@mailbox.tu-dresden.de until 1 September 2014. When registering for our trip to Berlin, please tell us, whether you would like to take part in the cycle or visit the GDR-museum and give us your date of birth.

Day: 27/28 September 2014 (Saturday/Sunday)
Meeting Point: 8:30 a.m. at Dresden Main Station, main hall
Costs: 50 Euro

Please note: This is an activity from the cultural program of the Welcome Center. The program is supported by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and therefore only open to PhD students and PostDocs. Only persons with confirmed registration can take part in this excursion.
