No matter how long you are here for, you will find it very useful to acquire at least a basic level of German. Getting a certain bread in the bakery, postage for your parcel or an information from your German neighbours may be rendered much easier then, for – especially among older people – English is not spoken or understood by everyone in Dresden.

Some of you are here for a longer period of time and may like to seize the opportunity to attend a German language course on a regular basis. Co-funding from the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) enables us to provide an intensive course at quite a low fee, including a certificate by the end of each term. This offer is available for PhD students and Post-docs. For more information: http://welcomecenter.tu-dresden.de/workshops_for_phd_and_postdocs

For all others and for those coming only for a short period of time, or in between terms, or with a partner, we offer a German class on two evenings per week at the TU Dresden Welcome Center. The open course program is designed to help you with topics from everyday life and the teacher will attend to your personal language learning interests. The course is open to guest researchers and their spouses, with absolutely none or already some experience. Good to know: There is also the option of child care during the course!
