Our plan was to go to the Ore Mountains, but due to the weather we changed it. Hiking and rain is not a good combination. But it turned out to be a nice trip nevertheless, because we chose to go to Freiberg instead and the trip turned into one amongst my unforgettable moments. We went to Freudenstein Palace in Freiberg with our amicable tour guide Therése Stoll. Freiberg is known as a mining city and Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg is considered as the oldest university of mining and metallurgy in the world. It took 40 minutes to travel from Dresden main station to Freiberg by Regional Express (RE) Train.
There we went for a mineral exhibition – “Terra Mineralia” – where there are minerals from all over the world. In short it means “The Whole World of Minerals”. At the beginning of the excursion there were new and unknown faces for me – and probably everyone else – but in the end those unknown face turned to into a small family for me. There I made good friends from Italy, Turkey, Bolivia, Iran & Germany and we all had some good discussions about our language & culture. It was an overall nice experience! Many thanks to the Welcome Center for organizing such a wonderful event.
If you’re also interested in going to this exhibition, find out more about it here: www.terra-mineralia.de/english/exhibition/permanent-exhibition
If you’re interested in hiking with our volunteer Therése, the next excursion will be on Sunday 15 October. More information can be found on our Facebook page.
