The SemperOperaball
– the most beautiful night of the year

In the end of January or the beginning of February every year, the Semper Opera turns into the setting of one of the most prestigious and important European ballroom events. To hold a ball in the Dresden opera house has a long tradition. Already from 1925 until 1939, the Semper Opera was host of such glorious events, even though back then, you could also hear Jazz being played – along with the traditional classic music and Waltz. After the war, there had been plans to re-establish the ball, however the huge demolitions and the government made the undertaking impossible. Since […]

Impressions of a Day Trip: Freiberg and Seiffen

Last week, a group of researchers met in the early hours of the morning for what would be a full day of tourism in Freiberg and Seiffen, two cities which are not too far from Dresden. The fun began when we met our guide and our driver who happened to be very enthusiastic people. The day was pretty cold, so much so that if hadn’t it been for our guide’s joy and radiation we all would have probably just slept throughout the whole bus trip to Freiberg. Luckily, we barely noticed the bad weather outside, as we were amused by […]

Classic evening at the Albertinum

Yesterday evening 26 guest researchers from different research institutes in Dresden had a fantastic classic evening with the Bruckner Orchester Linz conducted by Heinrich Schiff and the chello soloist Christian Poltéra. We followed the invitation of Susanne Lutz who is head of for public relations and sponsoring of the “Dresdner Musikfestspiele”. We met at the 6th floor of the QF hotel and where surprised to be so close to the Frauenkirche dome! The reception included drinks and an introduction to this music festival in Dresden and the classic work we were going to experience. By chance Jan Vogler showed up. […]

Walpurgis Night celebration with the Welcome Center

On May 30th our Walpurgis Night celebration took place in the yard of the restaurant “Kümmelschänke”, located in the west of Dresden. Bonfires are lit in all parts of Germany this night, of course we had our own as well: We organized some wood and lit a great fire for a cosy athmosphere and a great BBQ. To feed about 70 hungry guests, Siavash did a great job as our grill master. The queue in front of the grill was constantly long, but Siavash handled the rush very professional. Jasmin and Nicole meanwhile took care of the drinks and draught beer for the […]
