Friday, June 13th – Sunday, June 15th: Bunte Republik Neustadt or BRN

The “Colorful Republic of Neustadt” is by far the most popular event for the alternative scene with various concerts and a great supply of eating and drinking. Enjoy the festival during the day as well as at night. Starts Friday 4 p.m. / Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. How to get there: TRAM lines 3, 6, 7, 8, 11 stop “Albertplatz”.

Friday, June 13th – Sunday, June 22nd: Bachfest Leipzig

The Bachfest Leipzig is a traditional as well as creative festival, which focusses on the life and work of the outstanding composer Johann Sebastian Bach and his family. Explore Leipzig, where he spent more than 27 years, and enjoy the variety of his artistic oeuvre! How to get there: The “Regionalexpress Saxonia” starts every hour to Leipzig main station at the Dresden main station. Friday, June 13th – Sunday, June 15th: German Beach Volleyball Championships in Grimma

If you are interested in more sportive events, take the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic tournament. Serving, spiking, passing, blocking: 24 teams will compete for the title. There will be also a children’s feast for the entertainment of the younger audience. Beginning: The rounds start Saturday/Sunday at 9 p.m. How to get there: Take the train (“Regionalexpress”) to Wurzen, then enter the Bus line 694 and leave at “Grimma Bahnhof”.

Saturday, June 14th – Sunday, June 15th: FOR CHILDREN ONLY! “Brockwitzer Hüpfburgtage”

Let your children explore 13 colorful bouncy castles during the 1000th city anniversary of Brockwitz! Expect more highlights, like a parade, a mediaeval market as well as fun events for young and old. Opening hours Bouncy castles: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Admission: free! How to get there: Take the S-Bahn to Coswig, than enter the Bus line 401 to reach the festival areal.

Saturday, June 14th: Philharmonic Concert

Enjoy a classical evening in the Landesbühnen Sachsen Radebeul. The “Elblandphilhamonie Sachsen” will present a wonderful program with the String Symphony No.12 in G minor (F. Mendelsohn), the Serenade A-Dur, op.16 (J. Brahms) and the Concert for 7 brass players, timpani, percussion instruments and string orchestra. Beginning: Saturday, 7 p.m. Admission: from 6€ up. How to get there: Tram line 4 (direction: Radebeul West/Weinböhla), stop “Landesbühnen Sachsen”.

Saturday, June 14th: Long Night of Culture – Bautzen for night owls

20 cultural institutions will open their doors and present interactive and various programs with culinary, musical and cultural highlights. Learn more about the Sorbian minority having their social-cultural center in Bautzen and experience living tradition. The beautiful historic old town of Bautzen is always worth a trip! Beginning: 6 p.m. – 12 p.m. Admission: 2€ up. How to get there: Take the RE (Regionalexpress) from Dresden main Station to Bautzen.

Monday, June 16th: Guest Lecture: International Consensus Building: NATO in its 60s; what is its future? What do you wish it to do?

Prof. Lawrence R. Chalmer is an international guest speaker for the US Departments of State and Defense. He worked in 14 NATO countries with media, academic communities, and government agencies discussing and advising on important international security issues. In his lecture, Prof. Chalmer will talk about current issues NATO faces in light of the NATO Summit in September. Beginning: Monday, 1 p.m. Location: University, “Hörsaalzentrum” (auditorium), lecture hall 3.

Monday, June 16th / Tuesday, June 17th: Words and Pictures 

Thalia Cinema inside the Dresden Neustadt presents the movie “Words and Pictures” in its native language: An art instructor and an English teacher form a rivalry that ends up with a competition at their school in which students decide whether words or pictures are more important. Beginning: 7.45 p.m. Admission: 5€ (due to the Cinema day). How to get there: Thalia Cinema, Görlitzer Straße 6; Tram line 13, stop “Görlitzer Straße”/”Nordbad”.

Wednesday, June 18th: Centrum Beach Dresden

The best way to relax in the heat of the summer is, for sure, simply laying at the beach. On the rooftop the shopping Centre “Centrum Galerie” you have the opportunity to feel sand under your feet and to enjoy some fruity cocktails. Opening hours: Monday – Friday 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Admission: free! How to get there: directly located at the Prager Straße Dresden (Shopping mile of Dresden).
