If you want a more romantic experience go and explore the inner square of the Hotel Taschenbergpalais. It is a little bit more expensive, but the atmosphere is worth it.

Visit at a museum
The Staatliche Kunstsammlung Dresden offers a lot to see in all its different museums. All the museums are open in the time between the years and so even if the weather outside might not be nice, you can still spend your time nicely. You want to have a look through the stores while university is closed? All the major shopping stores are open during the time except on the 25 and 26 December. On New Year’s Eve they close already at 2 p.m. and on New Year’s Day no shops are open, but during the other days, they keep the regular shopping hours.
New Year’s Eve
In Germany, New Year’s Eve is celebrated with friends and family, a nice meal and lots of fireworks. The stores start selling the fireworks from the 29 December on until the 31 December. You don’t have to have your own rockets and firecrackers, you can also go to one of Dresden’s bridge or to a spot with a nice view at midnight and enjoy the fireworks over the panorama of Frauenkirche and Semperoper. If you are more a party person, there also several parties going on in Dresden during this night.
