Friday, 6 January: Love & Friendship (movie)
Jane Austen’s books are always a good template for films, nearly 36 exist and her most famous work “Pride and Prejudice” alone already inspired 14 directors. But this movie of Whit Stillman is about the rather unknown early book “Lady Susan” and turns out as a big surprise. Kate Beckinsale plays a widow who is looking for potential husbands with enough money to fulfill her needs and shows the vanities of the noble Snob-society in a unique and funny way. Don’t miss that masterpiece that is absolutely no boring historical film, but a satire on society and love in former times.
Beginning: 8:30 p.m.; Admission: 7€: How to get there: Thalia Cinema, Görlitzer Straße 6, 01099 Dresden; TRAM 13 ‘Görlitzer Straße’ stop.

Saturday, 7 January: Taryn Simon (art exhibition)
A Soldier is Taught to Bayonet the Enemy and not Some Undefined Abstraction, that is the interesting title of an exhibition with pictures of Taryn Simon. American artist Taryn Simon turns our attention to the margins of systems of power, where control, its disruption, and the contours of their constructions become visible. By a methodical visual and textual insistence and a highly careful mode of tracing, depicting and presenting, the artist not simply mirrors the systems she sets out to examine, but supersedes them in her rigorous application of their logic.
Beginning: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Admission: 10€, 7,50€ if you bring your student-ID card; How to get there: Albertinum Dresden, Georg-Treu-Platz, 01067 Dresden; TRAM 1,2,4,12 ‘Altmarkt’ stop or TRAM 1,2,3,4,7,12 ‘Pirnaischer Platz’ stop.

The rebels are trying to get the secret building plans of the Death Star to fight the Empire and form a group of people who don’t seem to fit together. Wednesday, 11 January: Der Herr Polaris (concert)
Bruno Tenschert is the man behind “Der Herr Polaris”, a man who seems to be sad quite often but that helps him to create beautiful songs, full of melancholy and sometimes even a bit happiness if you take a very close look. Together with his band he combines guitars, organs and the scratchy sound of old records in such a careful way that his music is close to perfection. Personal stories of his life round off the experience and will make you think about for a long time.
Beginning: 9 p.m.; Admission: 8€; How to get there: Ostpol, Königsbrücker Straße 47, 01099 Dresden; TRAM 7,8,13 ‘Bischofsweg’ stop.
