From 6 November – 15 November Dresden celebrates the Jazzdays. That means there will be lots of great music to be heard in lots of different locations all around the city.

Friday, 06 November 2015: ‘Measure for Measure’, a play by William Shakespeare
This comedy’s main themes include justice, ‘mortality and mercy in Vienna’ and the dichotomy between corruption and purity: ‘Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall’, as Shakespeare put it. Mercy and virtue predominate, since the play does not end tragically. As part of the campaign Weltoffenes Dresden (liberal minded Dresden) this play will be in German with English subtitles.

Saturday, 07 November 2015: Guided Tour through the Royal Palace
Explore the treasures of the dukes and kings of Saxony and find out interesting background information on the master pieces within the exhibitions. Sunday, 08 November 2015: Marcus Miller – ‘Afrodeezia’
After finishing his four year world tour, jazz musician Marcus Miller released a new album, which is filled with impressions from all around the world as well as from good friends. Searching for his origins, Miller followed the old slave trading routes and visited western Africa, the US, some Caribbean states and Latin America. All of those countries and their musical styles are embedded within his new album, which he’ll present at the Dresden Jazz Days.

Ryan O’Reilly and his band have been on the road for the best part of a decade. Honing their craft on the streets and in the bars of North America and Europe, they’ve earned and lost band members, money and court cases, bruised and broken bones, instruments and relationships. Inspired by Joe Strummer, Dylan and Gillian Welch, O’Reilly’s music contains a wide ambience that nods to Americana, Irish Folk and Heartland Rock, lyrically exploring every nuance of a life well-travelled. And now they are playing in Dresden.

Cuadro Nuevo went out looking for something new and they discovered the soul of tango in the middle of Buenos Aires. Having lived in an old town mansion day they discovered the bars and clubs, where Tango is always present. Now they brought this flair over the big pond and you can enjoy it here in Dresden.

‘That Sugar Film’ is about one man’s journey to discover the bitter truth about sugar. Damon Gameau embarks on a unique experiment to document the effects of a high sugar diet on a healthy body, consuming only foods that are commonly perceived as ‘healthy’ but still contain sugar. Thursday, 12 November 2015: ‘Caspian’
‘Caspian’ is a rock band from Beverly, Massachusetts, a seaside town 20 minutes north of Boston. Since 2004, ‘Caspian’ have performed over 650 concerts, bringing their music to 40+ countries on four continents. They released their fourth studio album, ‘Waking Season’, in 2012 and a companion EP, ‘Hymn For The Greatest Generation’, in November 2013. Now they are in Dresden to present their new album.
