Thursday, 14 December: Johanna Summer Trio (Concert)

At its roots, jazz was an expression of feelings and emotions as well as a form of popular music. The Johanna Summer Trio attempts to bring back this expression of emotions in music into modern jazz, transforming the old into the new, bringing jazz back to pop music. With a somewhat improvisional style, the band incorporates elements brought from their leader’s origins in classical as well as pop-rock music. All in all, it is rather difficult to label this band as belonging to a specific jazz style, as its songs may rapidly vary from intense and chaotic to calm and soothing. A true expression of emotions, at this concert you never really know what to expect!

Beginning: 8 p.m.
Admission: Regular 10 EUR, Reduced 5 EUR
How to get there: Kurländer Palais, Tzschirnerplatz 3, 01067 Dresden, TRAM 3, 7, 8, 9 ‘Synagoge’ stop.

Friday, 15 December: Salsacional Pre-Christmas Concert

Has the winter cold put you down? Do you already miss the summer sun and want it back as soon as possible? Unfortunately, we cannot alter the weather, however, at the Salsacional’s pre-Christmas concert you can musically be taken away from the Dresden winter straight into the Carribean! As described by the band themselves, “Latin music goes straight from the ears to the hips, and evokes summer and sunshine, dancing through the night.” Composed by both Latin Americans as well as Europeans, all band members share a common passion for salsa, the traditional music from Cuba. You don’t have to know any salsa to come by and enjoy the music, but be prepared to learn quickly, as it is difficult to stay still when the conga starts playing!

Beginning: 9:30 p.m.
Admission: free
How to get there: Nibs Cacao Dresden, Kamenzer Str. 42b, 01099 Dresden; TRAM 13 ‘Alaunplatz’ stop.
