Thursday, 14 December: Johanna Summer Trio (Concert)

At its roots, jazz was an expression of feelings and emotions as well as a form of popular music. The Johanna Summer Trio attempts to bring back this expression of emotions in music into modern jazz, transforming the old into the new, bringing jazz back to pop music. With a somewhat improvisional style, the band incorporates elements brought from their leader’s origins in classical as well as pop-rock music. All in all, it is rather difficult to label this band as belonging to a specific jazz style, as its songs may rapidly vary from intense and chaotic to calm and soothing. A true expression of emotions, at this concert you never really know what to expect!
