Christmas in Germany – Christmas with Germans

‘Tis the season to be jolly,

Fa la la la la la la la la.

As you can see: The TU Dresden Welcome Center team is really excited for the advent season and all the upcoming Christmas festivities! We love the decoration outside – and inside – and can’t wait for cozy afternoons, eating the traditional Dresden Christstollen or home-baked biscuits.

As always, we want you to have as much fun as we do! For that, we organize the Christmas event that somehow became a tradition of the TU Dresden Welcome Center: Families from all over Dresden invite you to join them in special pre-Christmas activities during the advent season.

We already have some wonderful invitations which we would love to join ourselves:

One family would love to have you over for an afternoon with coffee and the traditional Stollen and a small Christmas-themed excursion. Another host wants to introduce you to typical German handicrafts that lots of people make during the advent time. And we also have a very special invitation from a family that would love to show you how they spend Christmas Eve with cake, church, Christmas carols and presents.

Now, how do you join in on this? It’s easy: Just write a short e-mail to with what you would like to do with your host family and on which days during the advent season you’re not available. And maybe you’d like to tell us, what you could offer to make the afternoon even more interesting for your host (e.g. bring typical food from your home country or teach them a song in your native language)?

At the beginning of December we start the ‘matching’ process, where we find the perfect host for you. So be quick!

And of course, we would love to hear about your experience and are curious to see pictures ;-)
