We want you: TUD Welcome Center dragon boat team 2015

The summer is not far now and this year, the TUD Welcome Center staff surprises you with a special event. We will provide a team for the annual Dragon Boat Race on the last weekend of June, 27 to 28 June 2015. This race is a fun group exercise for up to 19 people who will canoe together in a long boat. Two weeks before the official race we will have a training session on the weekend 13 to 14 June (times to be announced after team registration).  The participation fee for this fun event is €10 per person. It covers the training session, the admission for the Elbhangfest (the big 3-day summer festival in Dresden-Loschwitz and adjoining villages along the river, which the Dragon Boat Race is a part of), and of course a t-shirt for you to remember the great time.

To register, e-mail us at providing your name, e-mail address and the number of persons that you would like to register. Please be aware that the registration process will only be complete once the fee has been paid. Therefore please stop by to pay at our office during opening hours (Tue-Thu, 10 a.m.-12 noon, Wed 1-3 p.m.). The registration deadline is 15 April 2015… first come, first served.

Walpurgisnacht Barbecue & International Potluck on 30 April 2015

Last year, we invited you to a Walpurgis Night celebration and a whopping number of over 70 people showed up, almost twice as many as had registered! You were so many that we ran out of food halfway into the event, but it clearly was a great evening. Therefore we would like to repeat this event and warmly invite you to this years’ Walpurgis Night celebration!
In the night from 30 April to 1 May Germans celebrate the so-called “Walpurgisnacht”. This is the night when witches are reputed to hold a large celebration on the mountain Brocken and await the arrival of spring. In this night bonfires are lit in all parts of Germany.
In order to adapt to the number of people attending, we have slightly changed the nature of the event:  We invite you to a barbecue with an international potluck! A potluck is when everybody brings some homemade food to share with the others. For the barbecue, please BRING YOUR OWN FOOD for the GRILL (sausages, meat, barbeque cheese…), PLUS something to contribute to the INTERNATIONAL POTLUCK (salads, dips, specialties, desserts, anything…!). If you do not have the time to prepare a salad or dip etc., why not bring some snacks like chocolate, chips or marshmallows. This year the Walpurgisnacht event is planned to be a big get-together with you and the Welcome Center staff, so it would be great if you bring some typical food for the potluck from your home country which goes well with a barbecue.
Please note: We kindly ask you to be fair and NOT bring your own drinks for the event. Drinks can and should be bought from the restaurant “Kümmelschänke”. They have kindly provided the grill and space for us on this special night at a charge of only €2 per person (to be collected by our team on site). So please don’t forget to bring some money for drinks and for the small participation fee as well. We will provide some pita bread and a hot punch. Thank you!

Where? At “Kümmelschänke” in Dresden Omsewitz, Kümmelschänkenweg 2
When? Thursday, 30 April, starting from 7 p.m.
Cost: €2 (to be paid on site) + drinks
