The prize

The “Filmnächte am Elbufer” show the best movies of the past year(s), as well as concerts of national and international musicians. The tickets grant you free entrance to every movie offered in the programme (

We asked the organisers whether they offer movies with English subtitles as well. Unfortunately, this isn’t possible. However, they gave us some wonderful advice which is interesting especially to those of you who practice their German skills:

With the two movie apps “Greta” and “Starks” (available for free for iOS and Android, more information here: ), you can read the English subtitles on your smartphone (“Starks”) or even have the translation of the dialogue whispered into your ear via headphones (“Greta”). Anyhow, these appy might help you to follow the spoken words, but even if you do not understand it all, you will enjoy the movie on a big screen in front of this stunning Dresden setting.

Please note: Not all of the Filmnächte’s movies are in the database of these two apps, so make sure to check beforehand.
