Thursday, 19 January: Old Master’s Pictures Gallery (indoor cultural program)

With such low temperatures in the weather forecast for this week, an interesting indoors program is to visit some of the amazing collections the city of Dresden has to offer. Take some time to visit the masterpieces at the Old Master’s Pictures Gallery. With master works including Raphael’s “Sistine Madonna”, Giorgione’s “Sleeping Venus”, Correggio’s “Holy Night”, Cranach’s “St. Catherine Altar”, Vermeer’s “Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window” and Bellotto’s views of Dresden, the Gallery is internationally famous and a must-see for the citizens of Dresden. A good tip is to buy the Museum Card, which as a single ticket gives you access to the Old Masters’ Picture Gallery along with many other museums in Dresden.

Friday, 20 January: Babel (words) Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui /Damien Jalet (dance concert)

Do not miss the internationally renowned production Babel from the flemish-moroccan star choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. 13 dancers and five musicians from 13 countries embark on a humorous search for the utopia of a polyglot identity. It may be described as an impressive theatrical dance performance instigating the faith and the arts. Saturday, 21 January: Bastei and Bastei Bridge (day trip)

Even if you already know the most famous rock formation in the Saxon Switzerland, a trip there during these snowy days is definitely worth it. A real winter wonderland experience in one of the famous post cards views of the region. The track is suitable for children.

Sunday, 22 January: England England Tearoom, Books and Culture (coffee time)

The Neustadt quarter is filled with interesting and relaxing cafes and tea shops. England England has a different and instigating proposal, as it mixes the fanciness of an English café with the comfort of your own living room. They also organize a weekly Bookclub (books in English only), which is a good opportunity for making new friends while enjoying a culturally filled cup of tea.

Monday, 23 January: La La Land (cinema)

The production won seven Golden Globes in the beginning of the month, more than any other movie, and it is a musical! A romantic story packed with jazz, and filled with comedy as well as beautiful musical set-pieces. The movie will be played in its original version with subtitles in German.

Tuesday, 24 January: Helmet – Dead To The World – Germany Tour 2017 (concert)

Good news for the rockers in town. This famous American rock band is on tour in Germany, and among the seven booked shows across the country, one will be here in Dresden. The group presents its new Album ‘Dead To The World’, in which the song ‘Bad News’ is the main success.

Wednesday, 25 January: Karaoke night! Der Lude

Give yourself a break in the middle of the week for a singing night with your work colleagues. Everyone with a minimum of talent is called on to amuse the night. From ‘Barbie girl’ to the Titanic soundtrack, you are invited to give your best or just enter in the rhythm by clapping your hands.

For the culture explorers among you, the Iranian night will offer the best opportunity to get in touch with the incredible richness of this land and its people.
