Wednesday, 16 August 2017: The Party (movie in original version)
It’s a comedy wrapped around a tragedy with great actors and an even greater movie. It starts as a celebration and ends with blood on the floor. One critic phrased it that way: Shot in black and white and clocking in at just over an hour, it is one of the more original movies coming out of the Berlinale. Several elements stand out, like the production design by Carlos Conti (37°2 le matin) with its odd, detached feeling bringing to the movie, but also the daring cinematography by Aleksei Rodionov (Idi I smotri, Orlando!) combined with good editing makes the movie work.
Beginning: 8:15 p.m.; Admission: €6 or €5, if you bring your student-ID card; How to get there: Thalia Cinema, Görlitzer Straße 6, 01099 Dresden; TRAM 13 ‘Görlitzer Straße’ stop.
