Tips for the weekend

Do you want to spend an eventful and fun day with your children? You can visit the small town Meißen with its medieval charm and the great Albrechtsburg. From two o’clock you can visit the Kinderfasching with creative costumes in the sense of carnival.

For those without kids, a day in Meißen can be a very nice alternative to your stay in Dresden. With a lot of the famous Meißen wines, you can enjoy a great view over the city and the Elbtal. If the weather is bad a visit of the Porzellan-Manufaktur and its handcrafted masterpieces, which you can explore with an audio guide available in 14 different languages, making the travel very worth it as well.

Saturday eve holds a special cultural event with the performance of Vivaldi’s “Vier Jahreszeiten” in the Dresden Zwinger.

Tips for the upcoming week

During next week the carnival will reach its peak at Rosenmontag. The public TV channels MDR, WDR and ARD show the Rosenmontagsumzüge in Düsseldorf between 15:00-17:30. On the parade you can see creative, amazing and funny costumes, dancers and the famous Funkenmariechen. On the 26th is Aschermittwoch, which introduces the Christian fasting period.

In the context of the climate change and the destructive forest fires in Australia the exhibition “Von Pflanzen und Menschen, Ein Streifzug über den grünen Planeten” in the Hygiene Museum could be very interesting for the scientist in you. You can learn about the beautiful world of plants and its big impact of all our lives.

To satisfy the poetic soul the Theater Junge Generation will perform an adaption of Sophocles’ Antigone at the 25th and 26th.

Always well deserving of a recommendation: We would like to introduce you to the language tables in the hostel Mondpalast in Louisenstraße in Dresden Neustadt. Every Thursday there will be language tables where people meet, eat and chat together, and practice foreign languages! So if you would like to learn a new language or deepen your knowledge, or maybe you would like to teach other people something about your languages – or if you just want to get together with people: You are warmly invited.
