Tips for the weekend

On Saturday during the day at Weißer Hirsch, the annual handmade market takes place with a selection of small, individual traders from the region.
There you will find DIY at its best: sewn goods, children’s clothes and toys, rockabilly hair accessories and vintage, ceramics, pictures and graphics. Well suited to spend the Saturday there to browse and rummage!

At the moment, there’s the European championship in men – handball! So, if you like handball and want to watch a play of the Dresdeners: Saturday, in the evening, there is one in the Ballsport Arena Ostra: Elbflorenz vs. SG Nußloch
Tickets are easily available at the box office. Cheers to a fair game!

This month at HELLERAU – European Centre of the Arts will present contemporary Russian positions of theatre, performing arts and music in a festival– called karussell!
The spectrum ranges from New Drama to music theatre, performances, documentary theatre, installations, films, lectures, discussions and mediation formats. HELLERAU collaborates with various Russian artistic productions.

There will be an experimental “workshop” without language, called “The Garden”, on Friday night. So, if you feel like an adventure: Get involved and find out what happens there.

On Saturday, there is a Documentary  absurd theatre in Russian with German subtitles! The well-known Russian writer Dmitry Danilov wrote his first successful debut as a playwright with the comedy “The Man from Podolsk”.
The website is also available in English, with references to the events coming week as well. So feel free to have a look.

Sundays, if the weather is good, you can spend a long walk through the Heide. Have we already recommended the Dresdner Heide to you? The Heide is a large forest right in the city! If you go north towards Hellerau (for example by tram), you can walk directly into the forest from the station. A great place to hike, walk, take the dog out or just to relax!

Tips for the upcoming week

For Monday we have an event from the groove station for you:
A legendary evening is the kicker evening there. Students but also working people come together for kicking the balls. But be careful! There is a ranking, so for the beginners, better start at the front table, because it is getting harder and harder! The entrance is free and it starts at 6 pm!

Always well deserving of a recommendation: We would like to introduce you to the language tables in the hostel Mondpalast in Louisenstraße in Dresden Neustadt. Every Thursday there will be language tables where people meet, eat and chat together, and practice foreign languages! So if you would like to learn a new language or deepen your knowledge, or maybe you would like to teach other people something about your languages – or if you just want to get together with people: You are warmly invited.

Do you feel like an atmospheric concert?
On Tuesday James P Honey plays at the Societätstheater. On “Buriers”, the new album, frontman James P Honey creates a gloomy atmosphere with his typical sung to rapped lyrics. The results are great songs, infused with fragile beauty and eloquent hopelessness. And because life just doesn’t play along sometimes, Honey comes to Dresden without a band. But whoever has experienced him on his guitar before will know that it’s worth it.

Do you want to get to know Dresden old Altstadt? There are guided tours through the old dungeons, with acting dungeon masters! Here you can book tickets for guided tours. But you can also just pass the old dungeons, there are usually also showmen who sell tickets directly! You can find them at the Dresden Neumarkt at the Martin Luther memorial.

Also: Be absolutely sure to check out our next trips! You will find them on the right side of the homepage! For exampel our History tour to Pirna for PhDs and PostDocs at 1stof February!
