Tips for outside
On Wednesday, on 1 July 2020, we would like to commemorate the racially motivated murder of Marwa El-Sherbini. In August 2008, Marwa El-Sherbini was called an “Islamist” and “terrorist” by her future murderer Alex W. in a Dresden playground. Following a complaint to the police, a court hearing was held at the Dresden Regional Court on 1 July 2009, at which the pregnant Marwa El-Sherbini was to testify as a witness. In the courtroom, Alex W. insulted the Egyptian woman, then stabbed her surprisingly and a total of 16 times. The husband also receives several stabs while trying to help his wife. In November 2009, the Dresden Regional Court sentences Alex W. to life imprisonment for murder, and the Chamber also pronounces a special gravity of guilt. Alex W. killed Marwa El-Sherbini out of anti-Muslim racism. Therefore we cordially invite you to a public commemoration and joint flower laying before the Dresden Regional Court, Lothringer Straße 1, at 4 p.m. In advance, there will be a memorial service at 2 p.m., during which Marwa El-Sherbini, the course of events and racist continuities in our social structures will be discussed at various stations. The meeting point is at the Johannstädter Kulturtreff, Elisenstr. 23, at 14:00. Please bring flowers or candles.
On Sunday 7 July and Tuesday 9 July you can go to the cinema! In the Schauburg in the Dresdner Neustadt the film “BlacKkKlansman” will be shown. It will be shown in English with German subtitles and tells the story of Ron Stallworth, the first African-American police officer in Colorado Springs, who successfully infiltrated a local group of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1980s.
With the help of his investigations, several racists were released from the US Army, but he remained in secret, and decades later put the story on paper and in a newspaper interview
On weekends you can refresh yourself in the beer garden of the “Chemiefabrik“. There the gates are open again, there is music, vegan food and for the little ones there is a playground in front of the door!
Every year! Even Corona will not stop us. The film festivals on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden are finally back! This time with less places because of Corona, but maybe that makes the atmosphere even nicer! Have a look at the website here, there are several (German language) films, but also concerts of the Philharmonic Orchestra for example!
