What’s On In Dresden? (Photo: M. Hultsch)
The Christmas market season!
Around Christmas time, Dresden is full of fairy lights, decorations and Christmas markets.
If you walk through the city from the end of November until New Year’s Eve, Christmas markets will be waiting for you around every corner. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to give you some hot tips for the most beautiful Christmas markets and locations. Last week, we reccommended the Medival Christmas Market in Stallhof Dresden.
But the by far biggest and most popular market in Dresden is the Striezelmarkt! Germany’s oldest Christmas market opens its doors for the 585th time. Millions of guests visit the Striezelmarkt every year. Many of them gaze in wonder at the Old Town transformed into another world.
Enjoy the Striezelmarkt daily from 10 am to 9 pm! In addition, this Saturday there will even be something very special: the 26th Stollenfest at the Striezelmarkt.
Tips for the weekend
Do you like opera? Do you already know the famous Semper Opera of Dresden? Anyway, on Saturday, Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” is being shown in the Semper Opera House. Enjoy an unforgettable evening at the Semper opera with this beautiful classic! You can buy tickets here.
Are you more of a punk fan? Then don’t miss the Femnist Take Over this weekend! Various feminist punk bands are playing at the AZ Conni. There will also be art and workshops and a lot of exciting people.
Dynamo is playing on Sunday again at home. So if you like football and want to see Dresden’s club, you can get tickets here. Maybe you have colleagues who want to join you!
Tips for the upcoming week
On Tuesday there will be a multimedia reading in the DreiKönigsKirche in the Altstadt. A win-win situation: on the one hand, you can have a look at the church from the inside, and a visit is really worthwhile, and on the other hand you can listen to an exciting reading with Tupoka Ogett. The anti-rascist reading exit RACISM is organized by the Alliance Against Racism.
What do you think of a walk in Dresden’s alternative district Neustadt? In winterthe Neustadt is beautifully decorated with fairy lights and Christmas decorations. In front of the “Scheune” there are the “Neustädter Gelichter“, where you can spend an evening listening to music and drinking Glühwein.
Afterwards you can go for a lovely meal in the “Scheune-Café“. They have delicious food, good drinks, and – beware – a cat who likes to roam around the restaurant!
Next week there will be a spontaneous choir in front of the “Scheune”. So if you like to sing in company – make sure you go there!
Have you walked through the Green Heart of Dresden yet? The Großer Garten Dresden is really wonderful, but you can get lost there – even now in winter. So if you are still looking for a jogging route, or a place where you can go for a walk with a date, or just for a winter evening walk, pay a visit to the Großer Garten and see what you’ll discover there.
Oh and don’t forget! This Friday, the 6th December, is “Nikolaus”. So shine your shoes and put them in front of the door. If you’re lucky, you’ll get some sweets. (The neighbours will also be happy if you put a little something in their shoes.)
